Creators

Avatar: the Last Airbender would not exist if it weren't very the creativity and inspiration provided by it's two creators: Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko (affectionately known as Bryke by their fans).

Michael Dante DiMartino studied at the Rhode Island School of Design, which is cosistently ranked as the number one fine arts college in the United States. It was there that he met Bryan Konietzko. Before the creation of Avatar, he worked as an Animation Director for Film Roman and helped with shows such as King of the Hill, Family Guy and Mission Hill. He also created his own animated short called Atomic Love, which was screen at various film festivals.

Mike Dante DiMartino: I would want to be an Airbender.

Bryan Konietzko also attended Rhode Island School of Design and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1998. He then went to work with Film Roman. He was a character designer for Family Guy and Assistant Director for Mission Hill and King of the Hill. He also worked as Storyboard Artist and Art Director for the Nickelodeon animated series Invader Zim. Bryan is also a muscian and has his own Indie band Ginormous.

Bryan Konietzko: I'm sorry to say it, but I would want to be with the Fire Nation.

Of course, there are many others who contributed to the creation of Avatar, but unfortunately, I don't have the resources to list and talk about all of them. I can provide you with this link to the IMDB, which should provide you with sufficient information.
